- Learning Support Assistant to join a
Primary School in Houghton-le-Spring on a long or short-term basis, starting in September. This role offers the potential to be temporary, permanent or temp-to-perm .
You’ll be joining a supportive and inclusive school focused on student wellbeing, inclusion and progress . The school is committed to creating a positive learning environment where every young person is encouraged to achieve their potential.

You’ll be supporting pupils both academically and pastorally, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
Your main responsibilities will include
- Supporting pupils one-to-one and in small groups, responding to their individual learning and pastoral needs
- Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence and independence
- Supporting students with their literacy, numeracy and wider learning needs
- Working alongside the class teacher and wider school team to adapt resources and support individual learners
- Promoting an accepting, inclusive classroom where every student feels safe, valued and able to learn
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop strong routines and learning habits
Requirements or Skills
- Recent experience working in a school, education or youth setting
- Experience supporting children or young people with their learning, wellbeing or behaviour
- Solid literacy and numeracy skills
- A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or a similar subject - or equivalent hands-on experience
- A patient, supportive and encouraging approach to working with young people
- Comfortable taking direction from the class teacher and working effectively as part of a team
