Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Billingham

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Billingham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join schools from September 2026.

We have a range of long-term and full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You’ll play an important role within the classroom, supporting teachers, delivering learning activities, leading interventions, and providing high-quality support to pupils across the Primary age range.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Lead lessons and learning activities when required.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support pupil progress.
  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on pupil progress.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and the wider school team.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and organisation.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant is essential.
  • HLTA experience or experience leading learning activities is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the Primary curriculum.
  • Confident leading small groups and learning activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider school team.
  • Passion for supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
