Role Overview
As a Wraparound Childcare Assistant, you will support children from Nursery through to Year 6 during wraparound care sessions before and after the school day. You will help create a fun, safe, and engaging environment where children can play, socialise, relax, and develop important social and life skills. This role is ideal for individuals who are caring, energetic, and passionate about supporting children of varying ages and abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage children in age-appropriate play and activities
- Support children’s social, emotional, and communication development
- Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and confidence
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all age groups
- Support children during breakfast and snack times
- Assist with transitions between school, club sessions, and home time
- Ensure children’s safety and wellbeing at all times
- Prepare and tidy activity areas and resources
- Work collaboratively with school staff and parents/carers
- Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the breakfast and afterschool club
- Maintain positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children in a nursery, school, childcare, or similar setting
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s development and wellbeing
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A patient, caring, and proactive approach
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Must live locally to Gateshead — no relocation
- Level 3 Early Years Qualification (desirable)
- Paediatric First Aid (desirable)
