Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (minimum commitment of 3 days per week)

Are you an adaptable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant looking for flexible work in primary schools? Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming primary schools across Gateshead to recruit Supply Teaching Assistants for emergency day-to-day cover starting in September. This is an ideal opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants who thrive in different school environments and are looking for flexible work while maintaining a minimum commitment of three days per week. You’ll have the opportunity to support pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, providing valuable classroom support at short notice and helping schools maintain high-quality learning during staff absences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support class teachers in delivering engaging lessons across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support where required.
  • Adapt quickly to different classrooms, schools and learning environments.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and learning resources.
  • Help pupils remain engaged and focused throughout the school day.

Pupil Support & Wellbeing

  • Build positive relationships with pupils from a range of age groups.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage participation in learning.
  • Support children’s social, emotional and academic development.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Teamwork & Professional Practice

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and school staff to ensure a smooth school day.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism when covering short-notice absences.
  • Positively represent Milk Education within partner schools.

Essential Criteria

  • Recent experience working with primary-aged children across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • A flexible, reliable and proactive approach to work.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new school environments and routines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • A relevant degree or Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
  • Availability to work a minimum of three days per week.
  • Must live locally to Gateshead - no relocation.
