Milk Education is working in partnership with a fantastic primary school in Whickham, Gateshead, to recruit a Kids’ Club Assistant to support their popular wraparound childcare provision and school holiday clubs.

Role Overview

As a Kids’ Club Assistant, you’ll work with children from Nursery through to Year 6, delivering exciting activities, encouraging creativity and play, and helping create a welcoming environment where every child feels happy, safe, and included. Whether you’re leading games, getting stuck into arts and crafts, supporting outdoor play, or helping children unwind after the school day, no two days will be the same. This opportunity is perfect for energetic, caring individuals who enjoy working with children and want to make a positive impact every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Children’s Play & Development
    • Deliver fun, engaging indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages
    • Encourage creativity, teamwork, confidence, and independence through play
    • Build positive relationships with children and support their social and emotional development
    • Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where every child can thrive
  • Wraparound & Holiday Club Support
    • Support breakfast, after-school, and holiday club sessions
    • Supervise children during free play, structured activities, snacks, and mealtimes
    • Prepare activity resources and maintain clean, organised play spaces
    • Ensure children’s safety and wellbeing throughout each session
  • Working as Part of the Team
    • Work closely with colleagues, parents, and school staff
    • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and childcare policies at all times
    • Contribute ideas for exciting activities and themed holiday club programmes
    • Help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the provision

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children in a school, nursery, childcare, holiday club, sports coaching, or similar setting
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s wellbeing and development
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and approachable personality
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, proactive, and flexible approach to work
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Must live locally to Gateshead – no relocation

Desirable:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare or Early Years qualification
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification
