About the Role

Milk Education is working in partnership with a fantastic children’s charity in Gateshead to appoint a Deputy Childcare Manager for their out of school care provision, supporting children aged 3–12 years. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to join a purpose-driven organisation that is committed to improving outcomes for children and families within the local community. The role will initially be temporary, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.

Role Overview

As Deputy Childcare Manager, you will work closely with the Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the out of school care provision, ensuring children aged 3–12 receive high-quality care in a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment. You will play a key role in supporting the staff team, maintaining high standards of safeguarding and care, and helping to create engaging activities that meet the needs and interests of the children. You will also act as a positive role model for the team, supporting the Manager with leadership, organisation, and the continued development of the provision.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant childcare/early years qualification, Level 3 or above
  • Previous experience working in a childcare, wraparound care, out of school club, or similar setting
  • Experience of supporting or leading a childcare team
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and children’s welfare
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Must live locally to Gateshead / surrounding areas – no relocation

Previous Deputy Childcare Manager, Senior Practitioner, Room Leader, Out of School Club Leader, Playworker or similar experience would be highly advantageous.
