This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can confidently lead classes, maintain high expectations, and create a calm, purposeful learning environment in the absence of the class teacher.
The Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task while maintaining the school’s high standards of behaviour and conduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes during teacher absences using pre-prepared lesson plans.
- Establish a positive, calm, and focused classroom environment.
- Apply the school’s behaviour policy consistently and confidently.
- Manage challenging behaviour effectively using positive behaviour management strategies.
- Encourage pupils to remain engaged, motivated, and focused throughout lessons.
- Support students with varying learning needs while promoting inclusion and participation.
- Liaise with teaching staff and report on lesson progress and any behavioural concerns.
- Contribute positively to the wider school community and uphold safeguarding responsibilities.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Sports Coach, or in another classroom-based role.
- Outstanding behaviour management and classroom management skills.
- Confident leading classes of up to 30 students independently.
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive role model who can build respectful relationships with young people.
- A genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
