Milk Education is looking for a compassionate and reliable Classroom Assistant to join a specialist school supporting students aged 11–16 with Autism and associated behavioural and communication needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives by supporting their learning, wellbeing, and personal development in a caring environment.
The Role
- Supporting children with learning and general wellbeing, helping them feel safe and confident.
- Using positive behaviour management techniques to support challenging behaviour where needed, tailored to individual children.
- Contributing to risk assessments and behaviour support strategies to help children access education and develop life skills.
- Building positive, warm, and supportive relationships with pupils to encourage independence, personal development, and enjoyment in learning.
- Assisting the class teacher with planning and delivering engaging, differentiated activities to meet the needs of all learners.
- Being flexible and ready to support wherever needed, as SEN environments often require a hands-on and adaptable approach.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working with children with SEN, either in an employed or voluntary setting.
- A recognised Level 2 (or above) qualification in Support Work for Teaching & Learning in Schools, or equivalent (desirable).
- GCSEs in Maths and English (C / 4 or Functional Skills Level 2).
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
- Knowledge or experience of working with children with SEN, SEMH, or ASD.
- Ability to provide consistent, patient support and treat every child as an individual.
- Creativity and positivity in meeting pupils’ individual needs.
- Willingness to be part of the school’s behaviour support approach, including accredited Team Teach where necessary.
- Ability to complete reports accurately and on time.
