Milk Education is working with a Primary School that has a specialist SEND provision in Cramlington to recruit SEND Teaching Assistants who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with Autism and complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role is suited to individuals who are patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children to feel safe, understood, and included in their learning. You will work with pupils who may be non-verbal, have physical disabilities, or require high levels of personalised support, so a calm, non-judgemental approach and strong communication skills are essential. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND
- Support the delivery of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and agreed behaviour support strategies
- Encourage emotional wellbeing, communication, and social development
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Support with personal care when required (training provided)
- Observe, record, and share pupil progress with the wider school team
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Must have recent and relevant experience in an education setting, within the last 5 years.
- Understanding of the primary curriculum and classroom routines
- Ability to support pupils individually and in small groups
- Positive, patient, and nurturing approach to learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school staff
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
