We are currently recruiting a qualified SEMH English Lead Teacher to join a specialist provision conveniently located in Congleton on a full-time, permanent basis.

You will be joining a highly sought-after, forward-thinking team local to the school, dedicated to supporting vulnerable young people aged 7 to 18 with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a qualified SEMH English Lead Teacher to step into a senior position, lead the subject area, and make a profound, lasting impact on young lives within easy reach of Congleton.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering high-quality, engaging lessons across the secondary curriculum as an SEMH English Lead Teacher
  • Taking full ownership of literacy interventions, reading strategies, and baseline assessments across the department
  • Upskilling, mentoring, and delivering targeted training to teaching and support staff local to Congleton
  • Supporting pupils’ academic progress and personal development through tailored Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), EHCP reviews, and PEP meetings
  • Fostering a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive classroom environment for learners with complex SEND requirements

Requirements or Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) along with a relevant degree in English or a related subject
  • Proven experience working as an SEMH English Lead Teacher or an English Teacher with extensive SEND/SEMH classroom experience
  • Demonstrable leadership or subject management experience (or a strong readiness to take the next step into a department lead role)
  • Outstanding behaviour management strategies, with a calm, empathetic, and resilient approach suitable for an SEMH setting conveniently located for Congleton candidates
  • Strong knowledge of assessment frameworks, phonics schemes, and literacy intervention strategies

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
