Milk Education is recruiting a resilient, committed, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Chesterfield. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to mainstream education and thrive in structured, supportive environments.
Due to the nature of the provision and potential off-site activities, candidates must be able to drive.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
- Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning.
- Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum, adapting activities where required.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Build strong, trusting relationships to support pupils’ social and emotional development.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to support individual learning plans.
- Support pupils during transitions, interventions, and off-site learning activities where required.
- Recent and relevant experience working with SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, or secondary SEN settings.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence and be able to drive.
- Ability to work effectively under the guidance of teaching staff while using initiative.
