- Key Stage 1 Support Assistant
- North Durham | September Start | Monday to Friday | £107.71 daily rate
We’re currently recruiting for a Key Stage 1 Support Assistant to join a Primary School in North Durham, starting in September.
You’ll be supporting children in Year 1 and Year 2, helping them build confidence, develop their independence and engage positively with their learning.
This role would be ideal for a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Childcare professional or someone with previous experience working with young children who is looking to develop their career in education.
You’ll be joining a supportive school that places community, inclusion and pupil wellbeing at the heart of everything they do.
Whether you’re newly qualified with a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or looking to gain valuable classroom experience, we’ll work with your skills and experience to find the right school environment for you.
- Key Stage 1 Support Assistant – Main Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils one-to-one and in small groups, responding to their individual learning and developmental needs
- Helping pupils develop their literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills
- Supporting children to engage with classroom activities and access the curriculum
- Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour
- Working alongside the class teacher to deliver learning activities and adapt resources where needed
- Providing additional support to pupils who may have SEND or require extra assistance with their learning
- Creating a positive, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels safe and supported
- Supporting pupils during practical activities, break times and other aspects of the school day
Key Stage 1 Support Assistant – Requirements or Skills
- A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or a similar subject — or equivalent hands‑on experience (preferred)
- Recent experience working with children in a school, nursery, childcare or similar setting (preferred)
- A genuine passion for supporting young children’s learning and development
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Patient, approachable and confident when working with young children
- Comfortable taking direction from the class teacher and working as part of a wider school team
- Understanding of how to support children with different learning, developmental or additional needs
