Milk Education is more than a supply partner - we’re a community for educators. We’re currently recruiting for an Academic Mentor to join a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Bury on a long-term basis starting either ASAP or in September.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people to achieve their academic potential and build confidence in their learning. As an Academic Mentor, you’ll provide targeted support to students who may need additional guidance with core subjects, organisation skills, motivation and engagement in lessons.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and the SENCO, you’ll help students overcome barriers to learning and encourage positive academic progress in a supportive secondary school environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing one-to-one and small group academic support
- Supporting students in lessons to improve engagement and confidence
- Helping students develop study skills, organisation and resilience
- Working alongside teachers to support student progress
- Encouraging positive behaviour, motivation and participation
- Building strong relationships with students, staff and parents/carers
- Supporting students’ wellbeing where it impacts learning
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children or young people
- A passion for supporting students in education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, proactive and encouraging approach
- Confidence supporting a range of learning abilities and needs
- An understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management is desirable
