Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Barnsley to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant for a September start. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a rewarding career supporting pupils with a range of additional learning and behavioural needs in a mainstream secondary setting.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you’ll play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning by providing both academic and emotional support. You’ll work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEND department to create a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment where every pupil can succeed.

We’re looking for someone who is:
- Calm, confident and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs, SEND, SEMH or behavioural challenges.
- Patient, empathetic and able to adapt their approach to meet individual student needs.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and parents.
- Proactive, reliable and committed to helping every student achieve their potential.
- Able to remain positive and professional in challenging situations.
Your role will include:
- Supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4 within the classroom on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons across a range of subjects.
- Providing targeted intervention for pupils who require additional academic, emotional or behavioural support.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students develop confidence, independence and resilience.
- Supporting pupils with SEND, including those with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties.
- Implementing behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies.
- Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff and the SEND team.
- Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued.
- Supervising students during breaktimes, transitions and other non‑classroom activities where required.
