Aspiring Psychologist

Milk Education is working with many welcoming and inclusive specialist schools across Stockton and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit enthusiastic, compassionate, and resilient Aspiring Psychologists - Psychology Graduates to work as Learning Support Assistants within SEMH settings from September 2026.

Whether you’re a recent Psychology graduate or an aspiring Clinical Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, or Child Psychotherapist, this is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs before progressing onto further study or professional training.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting children aged 2–19, helping to create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment where every pupil can develop confidence, resilience, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support children with emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour strategies.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
• Implement behaviour support plans and therapeutic strategies consistently.
• Help create a calm, safe, and emotionally supportive learning environment.
• Observe, monitor, and accurately record pupils’ progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
• Support pupils with additional needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, attachment difficulties, and trauma-related behaviours.
• Assist with personal care where required.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SEND professionals, parents, carers, and external agencies.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• A degree in Psychology or a related discipline is essential.
• A genuine ambition to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or another child-focused profession.
• Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
• A calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
• Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence.
• An understanding of behaviour management and trauma-informed approaches is advantageous.
• Commitment to supporting pupils consistently throughout the academic year.

• This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
