You will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist in the Security Branch Norfolk (N0211), Security Division (N021), Office of Chief of Staff (N02) of Military Sealift Command.
Duties:
- You will carry out a variety of personnel security assignments such as reading and researching security manuals, instructions and directives, assisting personnel security specialists, and attending security trainings.
- You will be responsible for the clearance of applicants and employees for entry or retention in employment, and the clearance of employees or other persons for access to classified material.
- You will advise on personnel security recommendations for cases involving derogatory information, conflicting or inconclusive information.
- You will implement procedures and guidelines for MSC in assigned areas of responsibility concerned with protection of personnel security interests.
- You will assist the Personnel Security Manager in administering the Command’s Personnel Security Program.
Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
- You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Security Professional Educational Development (SPeD) position and requires DoD certification.
- Selectee must obtain and maintain certification within prescribed timeframes. Certification required is: SFPC.
Qualifications:
- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
- Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience in performing clerical or administrative support duties.
- Experience in maintaining records, files, or personnel documents.
- Experience applying established procedures to complete recurring tasks.
- Experience in using office automation systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, databases, HR systems).
- Experience in communicating effectively in writing and verbally.
Education:
- In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
- A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
