Personnel are assigned under the Military Local Service Engagement (MLSE), which allows individuals to express a preference for location. Final assignment will be determined based on service need and vacancy availability.

Role Overview: The MPGS provides professional soldiers to meet armed security requirements at Royal Navy, Army, RAF and other MOD bases across the UK Mainland. Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to military bases within the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Security incident management – such as suspicious packages, bomb threats, protests, etc.
  • Patrolling site perimeters – taking necessary action to preserve perimeter security.
  • Controlling entry and exit – managing control room and gate operations and ensuring all visitors are dealt with efficiently.
  • Drone Operator (selected sites).

Requirements:

  • Background – at least 3 years prior Military Service, or currently serving, in any arm of the British Military, regular or reserves.
  • Age – over 18 years and under 57 years at re‐enlistment.
  • Fitness Eligibility – medically fit (MFD or better) and BMI below 32.
  • Driving Licence – full UK driving licence with less than 8 penalty points.
  • Previously Served Personnel: Gap Since Leaving Service – Former substantive Cpl/LH (or equivalent) and above ranks with no more than a 10‐year gap; former non-substantive Cpl/LH and below ranks with no more than a 6‐year gap.
  • Eligibility for waiver – candidates slightly outside the above criteria may still apply; waiver subject to approval and interview.
  • Previous Service Check – Records will be checked; final authorisation to proceed is required from the Army Personnel Centre.

Currently Serving Personnel: Any currently serving regular or reserve personnel wishing to transfer to the MPGS from across the tri‐services should email ArmyPM-MPGS-Recruitment@mod.gov.uk to discuss process.
