We are seeking an experienced Planning Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of nationally significant power projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional who thrives in fast-paced construction environments and is passionate about driving programme certainty, compliance, and high-quality delivery.
The Role
As Planning Manager, you will lead planning activities across multiple live infrastructure projects, ensuring approvals, conditions, and compliance requirements are managed efficiently from pre-construction through to completion. Working closely with project teams, clients, local authorities, and supply chain partners, you will ensure that planning strategy aligns with programme objectives and construction sequencing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning delivery across multiple electricity infrastructure schemes
- Prepare, submit, and manage planning applications, approvals, and variations
- Oversee planning conditions, compliance tracking, and construction phase requirements
- Act as the subject matter expert for planning across project teams
- Collaborate with designers, environmental consultants, and supply chain partners to produce high-quality submissions
- Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees, and landowners
- Identify planning risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Provide advice to inform construction methodology, access planning, and sequencing
- Maintain detailed records, trackers, and governance reports
- Support stakeholder and community engagement throughout project delivery
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- RTPI chartered status (or working towards)
- Experience within contractor, consultancy, or infrastructure delivery environments
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and construction phase compliance
- Experience supporting live construction projects or multiple schemes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and solution-driven
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience in electricity infrastructure (substations, overhead lines, underground cabling)
- Background working within Tier 1 contractor environments
- Experience managing planning conditions, CEMPs, and construction phase approvals
- Understanding of how planning integrates with programme, cost, and engineering delivery
