Overview
Are you a driven and ambitious fire safety professional, ready to take on a new role in a fast-moving international team? We’re looking for a fire safety specialist to help reduce property insurance claim costs across Mileway. You’ll do this by working closely with customers and colleagues to improve how we identify and manage property-related risks. Your work will be critical in protecting our properties and supporting our customers’ operations especially in relation to fire risks connected to emerging technologies such as lithium batteries, PV panels, electric vehicles, and more. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a fire service or fire safety background who’s looking to transition into commercial real estate, insurance, and risk management.

This role reports to the Head of Insurance and is hybrid, typically three days a week from our London office, with occasional travel to properties and offices across Europe. We support a flexible working approach, enabled by state-of-the-art technology that keeps our teams connected wherever they are.
What you’ll do
- Support leasing teams in reviewing and managing property use changes that may introduce higher risks.
- Coordinate and communicate Mileway’s risk control inspection programme with insurers and brokers.
- Manage insurer risk control reports and drive follow-up on key recommendations by collaborating with internal teams, customers, and insurers.
- Analyse insurance claims and loss events, particularly fire-related, to identify patterns and help prevent recurrence.
- Create and promote clear, practical standards and processes to reduce fire and other property risks, including training and awareness initiatives.
- Collaborate with construction and development teams to embed appropriate risk controls at the design stage and resolve issues in a practical way.
- Contribute to broader risk management efforts such as insurance renewals, health and safety projects, and business continuity planning.
What you’ll bring
- A formal qualification in fire safety (e.g. NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent).
- At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated fire safety role, with exposure to warehousing and logistics property risks.
- Strong technical understanding of property risk controls, including fire protection systems, human factors, modern construction materials, and applicable fire codes.
- Proficiency in standard IT platforms and the ability to manage large data sets for analysis and reporting.
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute to a small, flexible team.
- A track record of building effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong influencing and communication skills to promote and embed fire risk management best practices.
- Self-motivation, initiative, and a results-oriented approach.
- Fluency in English; additional European language skills are a plus.
