Milestones Trust has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Learning Disabilities division.

Do you want to make a positive difference in people’s lives? Have you considered further developing your skills to support people with a learning disability? At Milestones, we’re on the lookout for new Learning Disability Nurses, and we’d welcome applications from registered adult and mental health nurses as well as learning disability specialists.

We take a holistic approach to ensure that the people we support have every opportunity to live healthy and independent lives with maximum choice and involvement. It’s a career in which you can make a difference. It’s what delivering great care should feel like.

We support people from 18 – 90 and beyond, in a variety of different settings – from Nursing Homes for 8-14 people in Kingswood and Winterbourne, to Short Breaks services in St George.

The peripatetic nurse will work flexibly across all services providing cover when permanent members of the team are on leave, on training, or unwell.

With the role will come variety and a unique opportunity to get to know a wide range of people in different service types, from young people who access our Short Breaks to people that we are supporting at the end of life in our specialist Learning Disability Nursing Service. They will also be able to share their expertise and best practice across services so will be instrumental in making sure clinical support is of the highest quality.

What we want

We are looking for a nurse with a minimum of 1 year’s post-registration experience in a similar setting.

What’s key is that you have the right values and attitude – we need people who can work in a person-centred way and act as a role model for our teams.

We need good communicators, both for the people we support and their families, and for other health professionals.

We want people who can work in partnership, working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.

We need enthusiasm, flexibility, and people who can respond to a wide range of needs and situations.

We need someone that can work a variety of shifts across seven days and in a variety of places. Your schedule will be completed in advance so you will know when you are working, but there may be times where the location of your shift changes at the last minute to respond to a staffing situation.

And we need someone with sound clinical skills and experience, ideally including catheterisation, supporting people with enteral feeds, supporting people with complex epilepsy, and supporting people at the end of their life.

What we can offer

If this sounds like you, then we can offer you:

  • Support from a dedicated Nurse Advisor who will work to induct you into the Milestones team and offer you leadership and clinical supervision.
  • The opportunity for you to shadow a range of shifts so that you can get to know the services you will be covering.
  • Learning disability awareness coaching that will expand your knowledge and understanding of the role and its requirements.
  • Access to an excellent nurse development programme designed to give you all the skills and experience you need to succeed in your role.
  • Up to 34 days Annual Leave Entitlement (Including Bank Holidays).
  • Access to an Employee Discount Platform from Day 1, with discounts and cash back for hundreds of retailers.
  • Refer a Friend Scheme earning you up to £750.
  • Company Pension.
  • Job Satisfaction.
  • Generous Occupational Maternity/Paternity pay.
  • Learning and development opportunities for you to build your career.
  • Health Cash Plan on completion of probation giving you access to a minimum of £695 cash back for health treatments e.g. Dental, Therapies, Optical, Maternity/Paternity, NHS Prescriptions etc.

If you have any questions, or would like an informal chat about the role, please call Beka Wilkins on 0117 970 9360, or email rebeccawilkins@milestonestrust.org.uk. Otherwise, please do apply now, and take your first step towards a new role as part of the Milestones team!

*Please refer to our Refer a Friend policy for full details of eligibility and terms.
