At Milestone Vets, we're passionate about providing excellent care, fostering a supportive team environment and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
About us
Milestone Vets is an independent 10-vet small animal practice situated in a beautiful part of Devon, within easy reach of the coast, Dartmoor and Exeter. Our main site is at Kingsteignton, just outside Newton Abbot, and we have a branch surgery in Kenton, on the grounds of Powderham Castle.
We’re a progressive, modern practice committed to providing excellent veterinary care. Open communication and lasting relationships with our clients are central to our approach, helping us find the right care for each pet and their circumstances.
The role
We’re saying a fond farewell to Edd, who joined us after graduating in 2022, as he moves on to pursue his interest in emergency medicine. We’re looking for a vet with postgraduate experience to join our established team. You’ll have completed your VetGDP and be comfortable with routine surgery.
Our team includes vets at the start of their careers and others with more than 20 years in practice. We work collaboratively, coming together for daily morning huddles to discuss inpatients, share interesting cases and catch up. Supporting one another is an important part of life here.
You’ll have the clinical freedom to work up your own cases, alongside support to develop your skills and explore your interests. If you’d like to pursue a certificate, we’ll support you along the way.
Meet the team
Angela started the practice in 2012 with Charlie and Janet, having moved from Zimbabwe to the UK to further her veterinary training before settling in Devon. She has a special interest in internal medicine, while Charlie now focuses on the business and management side of the practice.
Senior vet Veronica enjoys surgery, including orthopaedics and soft-tissue procedures such as BOAS, and gained her surgery certificate while working with us. Michelle enjoys the variety of being a GP vet and has a particular interest in internal medicine. Kate also enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, especially surgery, and has completed the CertAVP.
Veronica, Michelle, Kate and Edd are VetGDP Advisers, supporting our newest graduates: Edward, who graduated in June 2026, and Ellie, who graduated in June 2025. The team all share their experience as new members settle into life in practice.
Emma qualified in 2023 and joined us in 2025. She enjoys all aspects of first-opinion practice and getting to know pets and their owners. Grace is the newest member of our vet team. She qualified in 2024 and recently joined us after relocating to the area.
We are a nurse training practice, with a fantastic nursing team of 14 RVNs, 2 night RVNs, 1 SVN and 3 VCAs. Our Head Nurse, Vicky, and senior RVNs Hannah and Ashton keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, while our friendly reception team welcomes clients and manages the diary.
Our facilities
Our facilities include separate waiting rooms and kennelling for cats and dogs, two theatres and a dental suite with dental X-ray.
We have a range of diagnostic and monitoring equipment, including digital X-ray, ultrasound, multiparameter monitors and a fully equipped laboratory with Vetscan Imagyst and Opticell.
Visiting specialists assist with more complex orthopaedic and soft-tissue procedures, helping us care for these patients in-house.
Here’s what our team says about Milestone Vets
“Milestone is like my extended family. Everyone is so caring and thoughtful, and we all have the same vision of what is best for the pets. The directors really do look after their teams, and it feels like we are known individually and not just a number, and they genuinely care about their staff. Love Milestone with a passion.”
“The vet team collaborates well. Everyone enjoys taking ownership of their cases, but there is always lots of input and support.”
“Milestone has been fantastic in enabling me to work hours that fit into available childcare and my husband’s work rota, which means I can contribute to the on-call rota while still maintaining a great work/family balance.”
“I have grown in confidence working here and enjoy being a vet again.”
“There is always laughter in the air.”
The rota
We know how important it is to have time for life outside work. We plan our rota in advance and aim to be flexible, helping everyone make time for family, friends and hobbies.
Our full-time vets work a four-day week, from 8.30am to 6.30pm. We generally have three vets consulting and two operating each day, so support is always available when needed, and you can get involved with all aspects of our varied caseload.
Out-of-hours and weekends
We provide our own out-of-hours care, with a rota of 1 in 8–9 nights and 1 in 4–5 weekends. Weekend consulting hours are Saturday, 8.30am–3.30pm, and Sunday, 10am–12pm. We try to keep these appointments free for urgent cases.
Our dedicated night RVNs take over the on-call phone at 7pm and triage incoming calls. They remain on site until 7am to care for inpatients and assist the vet.
Two vets share each weekend, so you never have to work the full weekend:
- One vet covers Saturday on-call and Sunday daytime, with the following Monday and Tuesday off.
- The other covers Saturday daytime and Sunday on-call, with the following Tuesday and Wednesday off.
You’ll also receive a bonus payment for each out-of-hours call you attend at the practice, plus one early finish at 5pm the following week.
Outside of work
We enjoy getting together outside work, too. From our annual Christmas party with dinner and dancing to dog walks, spontaneous drinks and other social events, everyone is welcome to join in.
There’s plenty to enjoy locally, whether you prefer the gym, a local choir or outdoor activities such as climbing and sailing.
With the coast, Dartmoor and Exeter all just 20 minutes away, we’re ideally placed to make the most of life in Devon.
We offer
- Salary of £40,000–£70,000, depending on experience
- Relocation package available
- Holiday increases with length of service
- CPD encouraged, with certificates supported and funded
- Professional fees paid for RCVS, VDS and one other membership
