The department
The London Marketing & BD team consists of the Head of Marketing & BD, one Senior Marketing & BD Manager, one Marketing & BD Manager, three Marketing and BD Executives and one Marketing and BD Assistant..
The team also works closely with colleagues in our New York head office.
The Role
This role acts as the primary point of contact for our Corporate, Litigation and Project Finance teams, consisting of over 40 partners and associates.
Additional marketing and business development support may be needed for other practice groups at times as requested.
Driven to deliver exceptional results for our clients, these teams are market-leading practices providing comprehensive sector experience on the most complicated and innovative transactions.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
- Support with drafting and implementing each group's marketing plan.
Monitor and refine plans as needed.
Take ownership to ensure that actions are progressed.
- Manage each team's clients and prospect targeting lists, compile data and run reports for partner groups.
- End-to-end support of RFP, pitches and proposals process - producing high-quality client pitch documents and seeing them through to submission with partners and other fee-earners.
- Monitor the progress of pitches ensuring the results are communicated to the appropriate audiences and entered in Inter Action.
- Draft and coordinate the distribution of high-quality marketing materials and brochures, client presentations, client alerts, press releases, and other external communications.
- Assist in the drafting, editing, and mailing of internal newsletters, client updates and other client communications, including marketing and business development-related correspondence on behalf of partners.
- Work with the firm’s PR team on the announcement of partner promotions, deal closures and other significant achievements.
Ensure PR and social media channels are fully leveraged to support campaigns, marketing activities and client work.
Coordinate with book and industry publications on the publishing of articles.
- Manage and organise large-scale prestigious client events and execution of thought leadership programmes.
Support with conference sponsorships and seminars for respective practice groups.
- Write and manage each group's annual directory/award submissions (Chambers, Legal 500 and IFLR) and industry specific awards.
Ensure optimal quality to enhance and maintain each practice group ranking.
- Proactively identify opportunities to maximise return on investment and incremental revenues with existing clients through client development and cross-selling programmes and with potential new clients through new business development programmes.
- Maintain and ensure best practice for end-to-end deal collection, experience management, EU database, Interaction.
- Collect and maintain representative matters, deal lists, client and industry lists for use in marketing materials.
Ensure that internal deal database and internal contacts list are regularly updated.
- Conduct research on existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry or market trends to aid in the development of marketing plans, presentations, and proposals.
- Collaborate with other members of the global Marketing and BD team to ensure the success of business development programmes, campaigns and initiatives.
- Ad hoc project work, as required.
Person Specification
- Educated at degree level with a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- A highly motivated self-starter with a proactive and energetic approach, committed to excellence in client service delivery.
- Strong project management and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to juggle and prioritise projects and respond quickly to requests which have a short turnaround time.
- Experience working for one or more of the practice groups is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills and exceptionally strong communication skills, both verbal and written (including strong editing and proofing ability and attention to detail).
- Well-developed influencing and presentation skills, resilient and focused.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Familiarity with working with CRM systems such as Inter Action, website CMS, and email marketing platforms such as Concep Campaigner a plus.
- Flexibility to evolve with the position as required - including availability outside of normal working hours.
