The Role

This is a newly created role for an AML Assistant to assist with fulfilling anti-money laundering requirements required by law, regulation and firm policies and procedures. This role primarily (though not exclusively) focusses on advising on and assisting with AML requirements relating to matters opened in or connected to Milbank’s Asia offices.

The AML team is headquartered in London and comprises the Deputy General Counsel, the Global AML & Compliance Senior Manager, the AML Supervisor, two AML & Compliance Analysts (one of whom focuses primarily on AML for the Asia offices), and an AML Assistant.

A career at Milbank means complex work, unique challenges and inspiring results. It also means real collaboration and a supportive environment where you’ll learn and grow professionally and personally.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and relationship building skills for interactions with cross-functional stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who is interested in helping a team grow professionally and would like to influence the architecture of the global AML processes and procedures for the firm. The small size of the team means that the successful candidate will be prepared to embrace a wide range of tasks.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing due diligence on clients, counterparties and third-party payors through research and liaising with fee earners to obtain information.
  • Performing Politically Exposed Person, adverse press and sanctions searches.
  • Updating Firm software tools and databases with relevant information.
  • Identifying and escalating red flags and higher risk matters as set out in Firm policy.
  • Summarising results of research and drafting and circulating client and matter risk assessments.
  • Performing follow ups on outstanding AML files, ongoing monitoring on completed AML files and periodic checks on personal identification documentation obtained as necessary.

This role reports to the Global AML & Compliance Senior Manager. Occasional weekends, holidays and overtime may be required to meet business needs, including monitoring the team inbox and acting on urgent incoming work.

Person Specification
  • A minimum of 1 year’s experience working in an AML and/or sanctions compliance environment within a global law firm
  • Knowledge of relevant AML, CTF and sanctions legislation and guidance across Europe and Asia.
