The Role
We are seeking an AML & Compliance Assistant to assist with fulfilling anti-money laundering requirements for London and other offices as required by law, regulation and Firm policies and procedures.
The AML team is headquartered in London and comprises the Deputy General Counsel, the Global AML & Compliance Senior Manager, the AML Supervisor, two AML & Compliance Analysts and an AML Assistant.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Performing due diligence on clients, counterparties and third-party payors through research and liaising with fee earners, secretaries and the finance team.
- Performing Politically Exposed Person, adverse press and sanctions searches using a variety of research tools.
- Updating Firm software tools and databases with relevant information.
- Identifying and escalating red flags and higher risk matters as set out in Firm policy.
- Summarising results of research and drafting and circulating client risk assessments and matter risk assessments to take into account factors including AML, sanctions, CTF, reputational and proliferation financing risk.
- Performing follow ups on outstanding AML files, ongoing monitoring on completed AML files and periodic checks on personal identification documentation obtained as necessary.
This role reports to the Global AML & Compliance Senior Manager.
Occasional weekends, holidays and overtime may be required to meet business needs, including monitoring the team inbox and acting on urgent incoming work.
Person Specification
- A minimum of 1 year’s experience working in an AML and/or sanctions compliance environment within a global law firm or financial institution is preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant AML legislation and guidance.
- Experience of performing CDD checks on entities and individuals (preferably in a law firm).
- A high standard of oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
- Strong research skills, including via internet, databases and other sources.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
- Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, secretaries and peers.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively.
