Overview
You must be a student registered on a course at UWE Bristol for the 2026/27 academic year to be eligible.
We have an exciting opportunity for students who wish to join the UWE Bristol Student Life Team. The role of the Student Life Assistant is to provide support to students living within University Accommodation and in private rented accommodation, enabling them to feel a sense of belonging to the UWE Bristol community. Student Life Assistants bring UWE Bristol students together in an informal setting to provide friendly and professional peer‑to‑peer support, helping to engage in their community and promote a sense of belonging amongst the student population. They encourage and enable all students to engage with events, linked projects and promote utilisation of support services.
Accommodation Services provide a home to over 5600 students living within our portfolio and in nominated city properties. This role will help deliver high‑quality service within a customer‑focused environment which operates 24/7/365.
Responsibilities
Student Life Assistants will:
- Provide support and signposting on emotional and practical issues, including behaviour management, homesickness and general wellbeing.
- Encourage and enable students to engage with events, projects and support services.
- Lead events and act as the point of contact during shifts.
- Attend team meetings once a month.
- Partake in photo shoots and videos to promote the brand.
- Work predominantly at the Frenchay Campus, with travel between sites as required.
There are 4 positions available. Each postholder will work an average of 8-12 hours per week (480 hours over 40 weeks) as part of a rota that runs over 7 days. Typical shifts include Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and one daytime shift. Work will typically take place evenings between 17:00-21:00, with flexibility for large scale events during the day. Additional coverage for winter and spring holidays will be required, and training may be scheduled outside working hours.
Qualifications
- Student registered on a UWE course for the 2026/27 academic year.
- Previous experience in customer service and effective communication.
- Knowledge of issues facing students and awareness of available support services.
- Experience in or involvement with activities aimed at enriching student life.
- Ability to work flexibly in a 7-day rota and during evenings.
- Basic DBS clearance is required.
