You’ll join a small, ambitious and research‑active team, contributing to high‑quality teaching while driving innovation in curriculum design, research, and external engagement.

Our English Language and Linguistics programme is growing, and as a result we’ve got a fantastic opportunity for someone versatile who can teach across a range of undergraduate modules and areas which include applied linguistics; discourse analysis; second language acquisition; language and pedagogy; and ecolinguistics. You will join a dedicated and research‑active team in the teaching of our home and international undergraduates.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Lecturer, you will combine excellent teaching with academic leadership and a developing research profile. You’ll lead modules, contribute to programme development, and help enhance the student experience across a diverse and international cohort.

You will teach across areas such as applied linguistics, discourse analysis, second language acquisition, language and pedagogy, and ecolinguistics, using creative and research‑informed approaches. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to research outputs, funding applications, and knowledge exchange, building collaborations that enhance both impact and reputation.

Qualifications
  • A postgraduate or doctoral qualification in Linguistics (or near completion)
  • Expertise in areas such as psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, or ecolinguistics
  • Proven experience of teaching in higher education, including module leadership
  • A track record (or clear trajectory) in research, publication and/or professional practice
  • The ability to design engaging, innovative teaching and assessment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting and inspiring students
Location & Working Arrangements

UWE Bristol is a campus‑based University. In this role, you’ll be based at our modern Frenchay Campus where we’ve invested in state‑of‑the‑art facilities designed to help both staff and students succeed. You’ll spend most of your time on campus, typically 80 % of your time, with the opportunity to work from home on the remaining days.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Grade H: £46,049.00 – £58,225.00 per annum. Salary offers are made in line with the University’s salary assessment guidelines, reflecting your relevant skills and experience in parity with colleagues.
