SBS Assistant

The University is seeking applicants with an interest in building systems; this is an exciting opportunity to join a team of existing Estates professionals in delivering outstanding maintenance, building alterations and improvement projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting our engineers to deliver exciting projects and maintenance (such as our carbon commitments) and delivery of plant upgrades and management across our campuses.

The University has a diverse mix of buildings, of various ages, and this role will support the development of the Estate by improving performance of our existing installations. No day will be the same with this role, the varying nature of our installations and systems will be an exciting challenge. There is huge opportunity to be involved and assist with the development of the asset lifecycle programme, ensuring investment is not only value for money but focused in the right areas.

We are seeking applicants with a keen interest in building systems; we therefore would like experience in either hardware or software elements. Knowledge gaps will be addressed through shadowing of the existing engineers. Experience of monitoring systems; fault finding and progressing resolutions (we use external contractors, so experience with managing contractors could be beneficial). On some occasions it may be necessary to prepare process maps or mark-ups for external contractors or internal stakeholders. Both verbal and written communication skills will be important, with the ability to both interpret and explain complex information.

Due to the nature of Estates activities you’ll be required to occasionally attend construction sites, plant areas, or other campuses. Please ensure you will be able to manage these conflicting demands and have experience in managing time efficiently and effectively. The engineers and this post are responsible for infrastructure within various areas including Security Systems (Access Control; CCTV; Intruder), Fire Alarm Systems, IT/Telephony Infrastructure and BMS (HVAC Monitoring).

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed. However, there could be activities as part of this role at any of our campuses.

The post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time. UWE Bristol is a campus-based University, and it is vital to our success to have a vibrant campus.
