Position:Governance Assistant
Location:Mid Sussex District Council
About the Role:
Are you interested in local democracy and Governance? We’re looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent organisational skills to join our Governance Team. The successful candidate will work across a variety of different areas, including Legal, Electoral and Democratic Services, providing comprehensive administrative support. You will work alongside a number of stakeholders including elected Councillors, Officers from around the Council and local residents to facilitate the delivery of committee administration, legal and electoral functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support for Council, Cabinet and committee meetings.
- Provide administrative support for all elections and electoral registration functions and assist in the delivery of electoral events.
- Assist in the processing of Freedom of Information and EIR requests.
- Assist the Legal Business Support Officer in providing administrative assistance to the Council’s lawyers and the Monitoring Officer.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High levels of administrative skills and an interest in local government procedure.
- Confidence in a political and legal environment.
- Computer literacy across a variety of systems.
- Ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
- High levels of personal integrity and discretion.
- A can-do attitude with a high attention to detail and the ability to work flexibly to respond to the needs of the organisation.
