Somerset Studio School is a unique and small specialist Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics school with students' pastoral care, educational needs and personal future aspirations at its very heart. We have a small team of 20 staff and just 158 students on roll, aged 14 to 19 years and we serve the communities of Radstock, Frome, Midsomer Norton and surrounding villages.
Somerset Studio School needs a very particular kind of staff. As with all educators, they need to have a heartfelt commitment to challenging and supporting students to be the best they can be - however; they also need to be committed to 14 to 19 Education with an emphasis on developing young peoples’ skills through a predominantly applied learning curriculum, ready for employment. For example, at Sixth Form we offer Engineering, Health and Education T Levels - full time level 3 courses with work placements, worth three A Levels, developing the workforce of the future, whilst securing outstanding life chances for our students.
Working in this relatively small school environment, staff need to be resilient, adaptable and to exhibit high levels of emotional literacy and initiative. These skills and attributes are key to all of this - a strong community bound by professional behaviours, particularly honesty and self-reflection. Together, our staff, our students, their parents & carers, will collaborate to fulfil the school’s unique vision and ethos. Risk-taking and creativity, within the boundaries of the Trust’s expectations, are encouraged in order to meet children’s needs in this ever-changing world.
Somerset Studio School is part of the Midsomer Norton Schools’ Partnership and located on a large modern campus that benefits from exceptional facilities and a Community Sports Centre. The school is committed to supporting staff in their professional development and working collaboratively within and beyond the Trust to drive towards the goal of consistently refined pedagogy and practice with a student centred mindset - the result, the best possible life chances for our students.
This role is central to the school’s unique vision: science underpins the success students can make in the Somerset Studio curriculum, both by supporting students to gain the academic qualifications they need to pursue their interests, and in developing curiosity, investigative skill and problem-solving, preparing them for life.
