JOB PURPOSE:
An exciting opportunity to join our Adult Health and Social Care service as a Social Work Team Leader. This post will have both operational and strategic oversight. The post holder will provide Team Leader capacity and resource to existing specialist Social Work teams (some being integrated teams – Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Older People, Adult Support and Protection, Hospital Inreach and the Duty Team). Covering during Team Lead absence will be a key element of this post.
The post holder will deliver an effective service which achieves agreed outcomes and supports wellbeing for people accessing our adult services, who may have multiple and complex needs. Work delivered will be according to policy, professional standards, and best practice, utilising allocated budget, staff, partner organisations and other resources.
There will also be a strategic element to the post, streamlining pathways between services/teams and developing shared understanding of roles and remits. There will also be a focus on learning and development for this post holder, ensuring our staff teams are providing high quality, safe and effective care.

KNOWLEDGE:
Essential:
- A Diploma or degree in Social Work/Occupational Therapy;
- A commitment by the post holder to undertake training to the required level within an agreed timescale as set out by your line manager. This training will be supported by Midlothian Council;
- Experience of managing a team delivering a professional service to identified client groups.
- Experience of identifying and managing risk
- Driver’s license
- A post-graduate qualification in management to HNC level or equivalent, or a commitment by the applicant to undertake training to the required level. This training will be supported by Midlothian Council.
Desirable:
- Experience of managing a team delivering social work services for adults and children’s services.
- Post-qualification award in child welfare and protection, practice teaching, mental health, criminal justice, or SVQ assessor.
- A post-graduate qualification in Leadership and Management or equivalent.

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £54,475.92 per annum.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children or protected adults. Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
