Road services are accepting applications for suitably experienced road operatives to help us deliver various exciting projects utilising a modern fleet of vehicles and plant.

Ideal candidates will have experience in surfacing, drainage, plant operation, line painting or winter maintenance. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to partake in overtime and on-call operations, which is coupled with a generous pension employer contribution.

Jobholders must hold the SVQ level 2 in Road Building or equivalent experience and be willing to obtain a NRSWA operators’ qualification, along with at least 1 year’s post qualification experience in the road maintenance industry to carry out a variety of tasks and be conversant in the safe operation of a number of items of plant associated with the tasks.

A HGV / LGV driving licence is an essential requirement for this position. Experience in carrying out winter maintenance duties is desirable for this position. The jobholder will be required to understand processes and interpret technical plans and site drawings. They will also be required to take site measures to allow the accurate ordering of materials and equipment.

Essential:

Desirable:

  • Plant Operator Certificates
  • Health and Safety Certificates (IOSH working safely or equivalent)
  • SVQ level 2 in Winter Maintenance

Contract Status: Permanent

Hours of Work: 36 hours per week

Working Pattern: Monday – Thursday 07:30-15:45, Friday 07:30-12:30

Weeks per year: 52

Please note that it is Midlothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £30,619.22 per annum.
