We are seeking a highly motivated and nurturing professional to join our enthusiastic and skilled team. We value professional learning in order to provide the best experiences, spaces and interactions for our children and families.

Burnbrae Primary is a large, modern, non-denominational school over two campuses, situated in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. We have a large Nursery and Complex Needs Provision at Burnbrae Early situated on a Joint Campus with St Maryโ€™s RC Primary. At the Burnbrae Road Campus we have 18 classes in our Primary School Primaries 1-7. The Senior Leadership Team consists of three Depute Head Teachers and a Head Teacher supported by four Principal Teachers (2 part time).

Applications for this post are invited from Early Years Practitioners who have interest and experience in supporting children who experience barriers to their learning through additional support needs. An understanding of trauma informed practice and the vision and energy to promote the high standards of this school in our Early Years team. We have three bespoke playrooms and a large, stimulating, interconnected outside space as well as a large sand pit. The capacity is 120 over all three rooms but we expect about 96 children this session. Each room has a Senior EYP and we also have 3 LAs to complement the team of EYPs and a designated DHT and the support of the HT and whole leadership team.

KNOWLEDGE

Post holder must hold at least a practitioner level qualification, HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7; or SVQ Social Services (Children & Young people) at SCQF 7 or equivalents that meet the requirements for SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) registration e.g.

  • SVQ 3 Child Care and Education
  • SVQ 3 Early Years Care and Education
  • SVQ Childrenโ€™s Care learning and Development SCQF 7
  • HNC Childcare and Education.
  • HNC Working with Children in Early Years.
  • HNC Early Education and Childcare (at SCQF level 7).

Qualifications which were previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.

An up to date first aid certificate is also required.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 18 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is ยฃ13,558.63 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
