We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic individual to join our highly motivated Strategic Transport team. Midlothian is currently the fastest growing authority in Scotland and this brings exciting transport opportunities and challenges, as well as providing a chance to help shape and build transport networks for a more sustainable future. The post holder will have the opportunity to work within the Strategic Transport Team, leading on transport decarbonisation projects and schemes to assist in public transport expansion as well as having the chance to contribute actively to transformative regional projects. There will be a chance to contribute significantly to the development and preparation of strategic plans, transport funding applications, strategic business cases for major projects. You will be expected to liaise with many and varied stakeholders, developing lasting and positive relationships on behalf of the Council, and have the chance to help identify ways to help deliver on Council’s transport and planning policies.

Excellent communication skills, and the ability to organise and manage a very varied workload in the face of competing priorities are both essential requirements for the post holder, together with well-developed IT skills. A degree in a relevant subject is essential, coupled with a genuine interest in, and experience of transport planning, particularly in relation to sustainable transport and infrastructure. A relevant post degree qualification and membership of an applicable professional body is also desirable.

The post holder will be educated to degree level and a degree in a relevant subject is desirable. They should have knowledge of, and genuine interest in and experience of transport planning issues, particularly in relation to sustainable transport and infrastructure. They should have demonstrable experience of working on their own initiative to be able to source necessary data, analyse and produce information, make everyday decisions and progress priority projects.

Please note that it is Midlothian Council’s policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £39,128.74 per annum.
