As a key member of our HR team, you will be based at Fairfield House in Dalkeith and work across the whole of Midlothian. In this role, you will lead employee relations investigations in line with Council People Policies, meeting with witnesses, gathering evidence, and producing clear, well-structured reports for any subsequent hearings. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional looking to broaden their investigation and case management experience. You’ll enhance your employee relations knowledge while working closely with an HR Business Partner, who will be available to offer guidance and support as cases progress.

To succeed, you will bring the ability to carry out investigations that are thorough, fair, objective, and timely. You will be confident in producing high-quality, comprehensive reports and understand the importance of applying the “balance of probabilities” standard in line with employment law. You will hold a degree-level qualification in HR or a related field or be able to demonstrate significant equivalent experience. You will have previous experience in investigative work within a similar environment, coupled with strong report-writing skills. An analytical mindset, excellent attention to detail, and effective problem-solving abilities are essential attributes for this role. Associate membership of the CIPD is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Essential Degree level qualification or be able to demonstrate extensive relevant experience
  • Experience of undertaking investigative work in a multi-disciplined organisation and/or in an environment providing a service of legal authority.
  • A strong analytical approach to work with an emphasis on problem solving.
  • Ability to write robust, comprehensive investigative reports for Senior Management.
  • An understanding of local government or other large public sector organisations.
  • An understanding of legislation relevant to this area of work.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on 28 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is ÂŁ27,540.60 per annum.

Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate.
