For all our apprentice positions, we’re looking for 3 National 4s or equivalent, ideally Maths, English and a Science subject. But even if you don’t have these formal qualifications, you may be considered if you have the equivalent skills and abilities.

Based at Stobhill Depot, Newtongrange, your trade will be tailored to give you formal training combined with practical, supervised on-the-job training – and a recognised qualification at the end of it.

We are looking to recruit 16-19 year olds in order to comply with Skills Development Scotland requirements to secure fully funded training places. As this is considered a funding issue it is therefore only open to 16 to 19 year olds and age legislation is not applicable.

While we are looking for 16-19 year olds to apply for these posts we understand that some people will not reach their 16th birthday until after the closing date. Unfortunately, our system will automatically reject any applications from candidates who do not fit these age categories 16-19. If you have reached the Statutory School Leaving Date to leave from the 31st May 2026 and you reach the age of 16 on or before the 30th September 2026 you are eligible to apply for these posts.

Successful candidates will be registered with the appropriate Industry Training Organisation for the duration of their training programme. Apprentices will receive a personal training plan which will outline the development of their work-based training programme which will be reviewed at regular intervals.

Essential:
  • 3 Standard Grades (level 4) (preferably Maths, English and a Science)
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the post as the job develops.
