The Midlothian Young Carers Project supports young carers in Midlothian and has existed in its current format since June 2020. The Project and staff deliver support to young people based upon the key components of the Carers Act Scotland (2016). The candidate would be expected to co-lead on the project, deliver on the project outcomes and be able to supervise staff or be prepared to develop this in their role. This post is an exciting addition to the services supporting young carers in Midlothian and will suit someone who is able to listen to the views of young carers and create a project that meets their needs.
Knowledge:
- Extensive experience of delivering communities and lifelong learning programmes and projects including delivery of accredited opportunities.
- Desirable to have supervised either volunteers and/or staff.
- Essential to have one or more qualification at SCQF Level 8 (or higher) or equivalent work experience/qualifications in Community Education, Teaching, Employability, Social Policy or equivalent relevant communities and lifelong learning experience including trade certificates.
- Desirable to hold verifier and assessor qualifications acceptable to SQA and other accreditation bodies.
- Essential to have experience of planning community learning and development interventions, programmes and projects.
- Desirable to have experience of supporting internal or external working groups to lead on key communities and lifelong learning themes.

Contract Status: Fixed Term until 30/04/2027
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week (negotiable)
Working Pattern: Flexible including evenings
Weeks per year: 52
Please note that it is Midlothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £39,128.74 per annum.
Requirements:
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children or adults. Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Adults. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
