Job Vacancy

Midlothian Children’s Services are establishing a new Edge of Care Service which aims to support children and young people to remain in the care of their parent(s) or care giver(s) and within their local communities. The service will also provide support to prevent placement breakdown.

Successful applicants will evidence their experience of working flexibly within a similar service or in providing creative and tailored packages of support to children, young people and their parents or carer(s) in times of crisis. Experience of being able to maintain positive relationships with young people who have experienced significant trauma and who have complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties is necessary.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Educated to HNC social care or SVQ Level 3 (children and young people) or equivalent within a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of working with the national and local practice, policy, procedure and legislation relevant to the post. This includes an awareness of the SSSC Code of Practice, Human Rights legislation, United Nation Convention of the Rights of Child and getting it right for every child and The Promise
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with children and their families
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of systemic interventions and methodologies, such as attachment promoting, trauma-based interventions, child development and parenting capacity.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of key agencies.
  • Experience of working with children and young people on the edge of care
  • Experience of delivering parenting programmes or other group work.
  • Specialist experience of working with children and families in crisis or at risk.

Contract Status: Fixed term for 1 year

Hours of Work: 36 Hours per Week

Working Pattern: 7am – 10:30pm, 7 days per week as part of a shift rota

Weeks per year: 52

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £37,618.22 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children or protected adults.
