Bill Prentice Court is a new extra care facility located in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. We are looking for caring and motivated Care Support workers to join our Extra Care housing team. You will support tenants to live independently within their own homes, promoting dignity, choice and wellbeing at all times.
KNOWLEDGE
The jobholder should have a SVQ2 in Care, Direct Care or equivalent. If the jobholder does not have this qualification they must obtain it once in role within 2 years. S/he will be encouraged and assisted to achieve such qualification via in-house training during their normal working day. Registration with the SSSC is expected within 3 months of starting in post.
Jobholder must have basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand written instructions and be able to collect pensions, spend cash when shopping for clients etc. S/he also requires domestic experience of undertaking a range of household tasks and be aware of the roles of other people in the provision of care e.g. relatives, friends, children, other health professionals etc. S/he will need to be able to work without direct supervision and have a responsible and self-reliant approach with the ability to respond to unplanned situations in a calm and flexible manner.

Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with Protected Adults.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Protected Adults. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. Once you have submitted your application and this has been processed you will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate. If you do not grant access to Midlothian Council to view before access is removed, a further application will need to be generated, and this will incur an additional cost.

SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.
