Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust collaborates with North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare to deliver Talking Therapies (IAPT) services across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Due to ongoing expansion, we are advertising for new trainee posts starting in September 2025. We have 6 High Intensity Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist positions available, potentially located in Tamworth, Cannock, and Stafford.

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Wellbeing Service is a creative organization that values staff ideas and continuously seeks to improve and adapt to changing expectations. We maintain strong links with academic institutions, with staff involved in teaching university courses developed in partnership with MPFT. Our staff lead professional development sessions locally and nationally, and you will be encouraged to develop your practice through various CPD opportunities.

Service hours are from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, with future Saturday mornings. Candidates must work flexibly to meet service needs. Main duties include studying a 12-month Post-Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Staffordshire University, starting 24th September 2025, with a schedule of three days clinical work and two days at university weekly. The service provides in-house training and supervision, with access to suitable training cases to meet course requirements. Successful candidates who pass the PG Diploma without performance concerns will be offered Band 7 CBT Therapist posts.

Applicants will undergo academic screening on 26th June, with interviews in July for shortlisted candidates. All applicants must demonstrate eligibility for the course, especially if they do not hold a recognized core profession by BABCP, by submitting a KSA portfolio. Please adhere to the 2-year rule set by Health Education England if previously trained.

  • Essential: A registered doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or a registered qualification in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy, or a psychological therapy qualification at least equivalent to postgraduate diploma level, with significant experience working with adults as a Psychological Therapy Practitioner.

Experience

  • Essential: At least 2 years’ demonstrable experience working in mental health services.
