Job Overview

This position is for a Senior Assistant Psychologist with the Shrewsbury West & Rural CMHS.

The team works with individuals experiencing various mental illnesses, primarily adults in the community, providing key working, assessments, and risk management. The team collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, medics, non-medical prescribers, psychologists, support workers, and a nursing associate.

Candidates should have substantial experience as an Assistant Psychologist, capable of managing complex cases and challenging situations.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of brief psychological therapeutic interventions.
  • Contribute to service development, including using outcome measures and evaluating effectiveness. Support leads and practitioners.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and assist with related administrative tasks.
  • Utilize research skills for audits, service development, and research activities.
  • Compile and share relevant resources.
  • Maintain good relationships with clients and external agencies.
  • Receive regular clinical supervision from senior psychologists.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training
Essential:

  • A First or Upper Second honours degree in psychology, or a postgraduate qualification such as a Masters degree with a lower class degree.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable:

  • Additional training in professional psychology, mental health, autism, personality disorder, research design, or analysis.
  • CBT or similar therapeutic qualification.

Experience
Essential:

  • Significant experience working with individuals in clinical or supportive environments as an Assistant Psychologist or equivalent.
  • Experience working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health issues.
  • Experience specifically as an Assistant Psychologist.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with trauma, within multidisciplinary or multi-agency settings, with psychotic disorders, or neurodivergence.
  • Experience in psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, and evaluation.
