We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist to work with a friendly, lively, supportive, innovative and inspiring team, with a good track record of Assistant\'s progressing in their career both within Clinical Psychology and other relevant fields.

You will join a department of 3 Assistants, 2 trainee Clinical Associates in Psychology, a trainee CBT therapist and 7 qualified Clinical Psychologists, collectively covering the Memory Assessment Pathway, Community Mental Health Planned and Unplanned Pathways and Inpatient Services. The post will be based in the East (Lichfield and Tamworth) though there will be times where the role requires you to travel between, or input into, different MPFT sites, and includes working from home when required with equipment provided by the Trust. There will be plenty of opportunity for peer support and clinical supervision. You will also have a fundamental role in up-keeping the service waiting lists and contributing to service evaluation and audit to constantly find means to improve the service.

Main duties of the job

All clinical activities will be under the close clinical supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist within the Planned pathway of our Community Mental Health Service. You will have a significant role in delivering elements of service individually or in groups for Service Users such as anxiety management, graded exposure and emotions programme. You will, where appropriate, contribute to the clinical assessment of service users. You will also contribute to the assessment, formulation and intervention within care homes where there are indications the care home staff are finding it difficult to understand and/or meet the person\\\'s emotional needs as that individual\\\'s ability to communicate their needs deteriorates. There may be times when you are required to conduct audits or service evaluation to assist with the development of the psychology and wider service. The Assistant Psychologist may be involved with training staff, delivering groups, using outcome measures and evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions delivered. Administrative duties will include the maintenance of referral databases using excel, SharePoint and OneNote.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for someone who has good team working skills, who can work well with different professions/ staff groups and who can adapt to fast paced task oriented settings. You will be able to demonstrate professional respect and integrity while being able to advocate for psychological approaches to care and be able to show tenacity in advocating for service user wellbeing. We are looking for someone with flexibility and ingenuity, good work ethic and ability to adapt quickly as demand changes.

You will have experience of working with clients with complex needs and/or people living with dementia, or perhaps some lived experience of either. You will have knowledge and experience of devising and implementing person-centred assessments, formulations and intervention plans, using cognitive-behavioural frameworks. You will have a good communication style which you can adapt to people with differing communication abilities. You will be able to work autonomously for significant parts of the working day, but adhere to an agreed work plan and be aware of the extent of your current competency skills and be able to show that you do not work beyond this. The successful candidate will hold a good honours degree in Psychology with BPS graduate basis for registration, and be interested in pursuing a career in a related area.

Qualifications

• Degree in Psychology (1st or 2:1) or 2:2 with substantial relevant clinical experience. Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society.
• Further training in counselling/ mental health Further education to Masters Level in a relevant subject
