Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is an exciting, ambitious arts centre offering a wide array of free exhibitions, theatre, music, cinema and comedy performances as well as creative learning and participation activities. We’re recruiting for a Retail Manager to join our trading department on a 22.5‑hour week contract. This key customer‑focused role shapes the visitor experience and the perception of the organisation.

Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is re‑imagining and expanding its shop – we’re looking for a dynamic Retail Manager to bring our retail spaces to life. This hands‑on role leads the day‑to‑day running of our on‑site and online shop, develops exciting new product ranges, works closely with local artists and makers, and supports high‑quality promotional campaigns. Capitalising on creative flair, you’ll deliver eye‑catching displays and smartly selected merchandise – from unique artist‑made gifts to art supplies – inspired by our lively programme. Our ambition is to make the shop a destination in its own right.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day‑to‑day running of the on‑site and online shop.
  • Develop new product ranges and collaborate with local artists and makers.
  • Support promotional campaigns and create eye‑catching displays.
  • Manage inventory, EPOS systems, and supply ordering.
  • Lead, staff, and organise a retail team, setting priorities and workload.
  • Maintain health & safety, premises licensing laws, and retail KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience as a retail supervisor, manager or assistant manager.
  • Experience using EPOS systems for management information, stock control, reporting and decision making.
  • Experience managing and organising teams, staffing, workload and priorities.
  • Experience working with and ordering from suppliers.
  • Ability to create well‑merchandised displays without direction.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, personable.
  • Knowledge of product range and development decisions.
  • Understanding of cost and pricing decisions.
  • Understanding of gross profit margins and influencing factors.
  • Understanding of retail financial performance and KPIs and influencing factors.
  • Working knowledge of managing within Health & Safety, premises licensing laws.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.
