Older People’s Medicine

Within each specialty is a team of professionals ready to welcome you and support you as you begin your role. The leadership team in medicine will support your professional ambitions and development within the Trust, with opportunities for career progression, including posts in specialist nursing, research, or management across the division.

Main duties of the job

Please join our Newly Qualified Nurse careers event in person on 11 March 2026, 14:00–17:30 in Benjamin Gooch Theatre, NNUH. The Unplanned Healthcare Group prioritises people as its greatest asset. The group comprises services including Emergency Department, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Radiology, SALT, AMU, Cardiology, Older People’s Medicine, Stroke & Neurology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Renal, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Pathology, and more. These departments offer substantial scope for professional development with potential to rotate across specialties. As a Newly Qualified Nurse, you will be fully integrated into the team and encouraged to continually develop your skills.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Please view the attached job description for full details. Your preceptorship and beyond: our Practice Development and Education team will support you during your preceptorship and beyond. We offer a comprehensive 12‑month Preceptorship scheme with a trained preceptor/mentor assigned to you.

We run a specialised two‑week supernumerary induction programme (February/March 2026, date to be confirmed) to help you meet Clinical Educators, learn about the hospital, attend workshops, and develop clinical skills. There are opportunities for a transitional learning needs analysis and CPD sessions as part of the Preceptorship Academy, plus access to the clinical Skills programme with an IV drug administration day for newly qualified nurses.
