This is a full‑time Radiology PACS Support/Receptionist position (Band 2) at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, located at Whiston and St. Helens sites, 37.5 hours per week. The role involves a patient‑focused service across various reception desks, facilitating image transmission to other hospitals and performing PACS duties. Weekend, evening and bank holiday duties are included on a rota basis.
Key Duties
- Undertake general reception duties including greeting patients, verifying patient details, and updating demographics on Trust Information Systems.
- Enter patient and examination details on PAS and RIS following departmental procedures.
- Maintain data quality during data entry.
- Make appointments as required.
- Liaise with portering staff to facilitate patient transfer.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of RIS and PAS, including regular training.
- File and keep documentation organised.
- Respond to enquiries by phone and face to face, providing helpful assistance.
- Communicate courteously and sympathetically with patients and relatives.
- Arrange ambulance or transport for patients if required.
- Provide advice or redirect to appropriate department.
- Handle first‑line complaints or refer as appropriate.
- Liaise with PACS teams from other Trusts to assist image transfer.
- Provide radiology images for MDT meetings in PACS folders.
- Facilitate image transfer to other Trusts (CD/ Dicom push or other methods).
- Prioritise image workload based on clinical urgency.
- Undertake data entry on RIS and PAS for imported images.
- Access national tracing systems to check patient demographics.
- Respond to enquiries relating to image transfer and PACS issues.
- Maintain knowledge of RIS and PACS, including regular training.
- Support PACS/RIS team.
- Liaise with clinical staff to ensure smooth department operation.
- Work flexibly in accordance with Trust policy.
- Any other duties required by Line Manager.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Merge duplicate records on RIS, image viewing system and PAS.
- Identify duplicates/errors and address appropriately.
- Produce encrypted CDs for image transfer and legal cases.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
- Attend Trust mandatory training sessions.
- Maintain knowledge and skills of department/Trust systems, policies, and procedures.
- Observe and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications
- Essential: Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience; ECDL or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Desirable: Customer Care NVQ qualification.
Knowledge & Experience
- Essential: Experience in a clerical environment; Competent IT user; Able to deal with public in person and by telephone.
- Desirable: Previous NHS experience; Knowledge of medical terminology.
