The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

The post holder will ensure that within their areas of responsibility, the “Best Possible Maternity Care every time” is delivered to women and their families. This includes the provision of a safe, effective and progressive midwifery service to women.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing dynamic, professional leadership and direction.
  • Efficiently managing the service operationally and leading the teams to meet performance (quality and safety) and budgetary objectives.
  • Maintaining a high-quality working environment for staff to maximise their potential and develop their skills in clinical practice.
  • Being an accessible and visible presence across all wards and departments, advising staff, women and their families.
  • Collaborating with other Matrons in the Trust to contribute to the development and delivery of Trust and Divisional objectives.
  • Assisting in the delivery of the governance agenda.
  • Setting and monitoring clinical standards and playing a proactive role in quality improvement.
  • Taking responsibility for operational management of the service and providing oversight of a clinical area as delegated by the Head of Midwifery.
  • Undertaking regular Senior Midwifery Manager on Call duties.

Essential criteria for the role include:

  • Registered Midwife.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Completion of formal leadership training.
  • Educated to MSc level or equivalent.
  • Qualified and current sign off mentor.

Desirable criteria include:

  • Coaching qualification.

Experience required:

  • Experienced in all areas of midwifery practice with broad knowledge of midwifery practice.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and appreciation of strategic issues affecting health and healthcare provision.
  • Experience of a leadership role at a Band 7.
