An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part‑time Ward Clerk to join our friendly and hardworking team at Bridgnorth Hospital. The purpose of the role is to effectively support clinical staff and outside agencies in an administration role in a busy ward environment. This role requires someone highly motivated, well organised and confident in using their own initiative and computer systems while having a good eye for accuracy. As you will be the first point of contact for the phone and visitors to the ward, this role requires good communication skills. At a time when we are moving to “paperless” record keeping, current experience of NHS working with computers is key, although full training will be provided if required.

Main Duties

  • Act as the first point of contact for the phone and visitors to the ward
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Work closely with teams (e.g. Therapy, Discharge Coordinator) regarding admissions and discharges
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Assist with arranging patient transport
  • Deal with outside agencies (e.g. nursing homes, GPs)
  • Support nursing staff with administration on a daily basis
  • Contact IT department as required
  • Deal with mail and deliveries
  • General administrative work

Person Specification

  • Training and Qualifications: RSA Stage II computer processing/NVQ II in business administration or equivalent experience
  • Good level of general education
  • IT Skills – ECDL
  • Working knowledge of computerised systems and ability to learn quickly
  • Substantial relevant clerical experience including customer care, computer skills and organisational skills
  • Understanding of the requirements of the role
  • Excellent face‑to‑face verbal communication and telephone manner
  • Demonstrable negotiating skills
  • Ability to use initiative and utilise quiet times to maintain standards and initiate quality improvements
  • Excellent organisational and prioritising skills
  • Good writing skills
