Are you ready to lead the charge in ensuring seamless operations within East Lancashire NHS Trust? We are seeking a Materials Management Assistant to join our professional and customer focused Logistics and Supply Chain team. From managing inventory to optimising supply routes, this role is at the forefront of healthcare logistics, making a tangible impact on patient care.
The post holder will assist in the daily materials management service for dedicated areas within the Trust, primarily working in our Wards and Departments but may be required to cover areas such as Theatres and Emergency departments. The job is for 37.5 hours a week, made up of 7.5 hour daily shifts between 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday.
The objective is to ensure a timely and effective top-up stock and non-stock system, replenishing stock to agreed levels, checking receipt deliveries, and putting away goods. Much of the day will be spent at ward and departmental level, requiring a measure of independent judgment. Some tasks require initiative. To provide in association with other staff, a professional procurement and logistics service to the Trust. To assist Trust Management in meeting the corporate objectives of the Trust.
Main duties:
- Provide a range of professional supply chain and logistics services for Ward/Department teams at the East Lancashire Hospital Trust
- Inventory replenishment service (Inventory management, ordering and top-up)
- Maintain systems data accuracy (Microsoft Excel, auditing, standardisation)
- Provide help-desk support (customer service and systems understanding)

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supply Chain Supervisor, the post holder will be responsible for providing a range of professional supply chain and logistics services for Ward/Department teams. Main duties include the day-to-day ordering activity on behalf of the customer, replenishing goods at theatre and departmental level using barcode systems as appropriate, receiving, checking and putting away deliveries, ensuring items are rotated and do not exceed expiry dates, storing in the correct location and keeping the store area tidy. The role requires physical effort daily, including manual handling of roll cages and unpacking of products to storeroom shelves. You will process discrepancies for returns and credits in a timely and appropriate manner. You will carry out quarterly reviews with ward/theatre/department leads, using system information to illustrate spending patterns, identify products and stock levels. Keep all associated paperwork updated in line with code and location changes. A flexible attitude to working hours is required to meet the needs of the customer. Provide cover for other Materials Management Assistants as identified by the Supply Chain Supervisor and ensure compliance with Trust financial instructions and policies.

Qualifications:
- Essential criteria: Educated to GCSE English/Maths or equivalent level (Grade 4 or above) or relevant experience
- Desirable criteria: ECDL or relevant experience; CIPS level 2 or equivalent
Experience:
- Essential criteria: Experience of a customer service related department or similar environment
- Essential criteria: Experience of working in/with multi-disciplinary teams
- Desirable criteria: Experience of NHS Supply Chain stock control or purchasing/supply
Knowledge:
- Essential Criteria: Excellent communication skills
- Good working knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Office & Excel
- Organisation, interpersonal and analytical skills
- Desirable criteria: Experience of working in NHS or other public sector
Practical/Physical Skills:
- Previous manual handling training
