Are you an experienced Plant Operator looking for your next challenge in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment?

We are seeking a dedicated and safety‑focused Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team and play a vital role in delivering high‑quality asphalt products while maintaining exceptional standards of safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same.

You'll be involved in plant operations, weighbridge activities, loading shovel duties, maintenance, quality control, stock management, and ensuring production targets are achieved.

The Opportunity

As an Asphalt Plant Operator, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt plant, maximising plant performance and availability while ensuring compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.

Working closely with production, technical, transport, and sales teams, you will help ensure customers receive high‑quality products on time while contributing to the smooth running of the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plant Operations & Production
  • Operate the asphalt plant safely and efficiently to achieve production targets.
  • Accurately mix and produce coated products to quality assurance specifications.
  • Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Continually assess and adjust processes to maintain product quality standards.
  • Maintain stock levels and report any material shortages or delivery issues that may impact production.
  • Support the supervision team in maximising plant availability and output.
  • Weighbridge & Site Operations
  • Manage vehicle entry and dispatch procedures.
  • Record and process site documentation accurately.
  • Follow company administration procedures, including cash sales processes where applicable.
  • Maintain effective communication with production, transport, technical and sales departments.
  • Mobile Plant Operation
  • Operate Loading Shovels, Dumper Trucks, Forklifts and other mobile plant equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensure machinery is operated in accordance with site procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Maintenance & Engineering Support
  • Carry out routine inspections, preventative maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Conduct daily safety, environmental and maintenance checks, ensuring all records are completed accurately.
  • Identify potential mechanical issues before breakdowns occur.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensure all safety systems and controls remain fully operational.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Work safely at all times to protect yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors.
  • Comply fully with company SHE and Quality Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in risk assessments and method statements with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Support environmental compliance and site permit requirements.
  • Report hazards, defects, incidents and quality concerns immediately.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across the site.
  • What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • General standard of education.
  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
  • Experience working within an industrial, manufacturing, quarry, asphalt, aggregates or production environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and fault‑finding ability.
  • Ability to work flexibly across various operational duties.
  • EPIC Licence (for mobile plant trained employees).

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 – Process Operations.
  • NVQ/CPC in Weighbridge or Transport Operations.
  • NVQ Level 2 – Specialised Plant and Machinery Operations.
  • Recognised apprenticeship, engineering or trade qualification.
  • Experience operating loading shovels, dumper trucks or forklifts.
  • Knowledge of Quarry Regulations, Environmental Permits and manufacturing processes.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong awareness of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
  • Knowledge of site operational standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of Quarry Regulations and relevant industry legislation.
  • Good product and process knowledge within manufacturing or asphalt production environments.
  • Mechanical awareness with the ability to recognise and prevent potential plant failures.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of performance and safety.
