Employment Status: Permanent.

Responsible To: Coordinator for Family Wellbeing Service.

Salary: ÂŁ13.44 per hour.

Hours: 37 hours per week.

Location: Head Office (B32 3BZ) with outreach across Birmingham.

Integrity, ethical standards and a commitment to excellence are highly valued. Experience with unpaid carers and families dealing with children, young people or adults with illness or disability is a bonus, but transferable skills from other sectors are also welcomed. Comprehensive training is provided.

What a Project Worker Does

  • Identify and support families or people who provide unpaid care to those with disabilities and illnesses.
  • Engage with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, internally and externally, to deliver engaging wellbeing activities, information, advice and guidance.
  • Leverage Birmingham’s cultural diversity and identify individual and community asset‑based strengths.
  • Operate within a rota system, providing frontline support to unpaid carers and collaborating with volunteers to maximise reach.
  • Support marketing and promotion of the service and the Birmingham Carers Hub to unpaid carers and potential referral agencies across statutory and voluntary sectors.
  • Participate in regular reviews of activities and case work, ensuring risk assessments and person‑centred wellbeing plans are in place.
  • Understand the barriers faced by unpaid carers, especially from hard‑to‑reach backgrounds, and act accordingly.
  • Maintain confidentiality, comply with policies, GDPR and safeguarding guidelines.

Person Specification

Knowledge / Experience and Skills

  • Desirable: Previous experience working in a social care setting or similar (health or education settings).
  • Essential: Basic administrative skills with the ability to follow procedures, demonstrate good written communication, and produce coherent reports.
  • Must understand working with diverse communities.
  • Organising Skills: Plan and prioritise work. Attend and contribute at meetings and groups. Facilitate discussion at meetings and groups.
  • Must demonstrate capacity to deal with a range of people in local communities and across public service levels, working with discretion, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work in dynamic and changing circumstances, independently and as part of a team.
  • Should have knowledge of the issues faced by disabled people and their family carers.
  • People plan, organise and manage activities logically, consistently, using appropriate information systems and tools such as work schedules and charts.
  • Independence: Recognise boundaries; accept responsibility for meeting service users’ needs, demonstrating flexibility and pride in delivering high‑quality work within deadlines and under pressure.

  • Have enhanced level clearance from DBS.
