Who are Midland Mencap? Midland Mencap is a charity which works and campaigns for accessible and inclusive services and a better quality of life for everyone with experience of learning disabilities and additional needs. Volunteering with Midland Mencap is your opportunity to make a positive difference, have a great time and help us achieve our vision.

Purpose of the role? People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities. We believe that EVERYONE has the right to have fun and feel safe. We are looking for volunteers to help create a happy atmosphere or play the music at our bi-monthly disco for people with a learning disability based in the Walsall area!

What would I be doing? At our bi-monthly disco we really want everyone to feel welcome, included and to have a great time. We need you to be a friendly face for our citizens, chatting and helping them to get involved and have fun.

  • Meeting and greeting attendees
  • Supporting to make and serve hot and cold drinks
  • Helping to set up the room and equipment and tidying away at the end of the night.
  • If you want to help DJ you can also use our equipment, talk on the microphone and play music.

What skills do I need?

  • Ideally you will have some experience of playing music in public using DJ music apps via our laptop.
  • Confident to talk to the room using the microphone.
  • A lively and friendly personality to ensure a happy atmosphere.
  • Accepting of people who may be different to you.
  • Happy to chat.
  • Willing to learn and act within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap.
  • Good time management skills, reliability.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required by all successful applicants.

When and where do you need me? Pelsall Community Centre, Station Rd, Pelsall, Walsall WS3 4BQ. One Thursday evening every two months 7pm – 9pm.
